Extensions can add space, but its good design that decides what to do with it.
This project began with a clear brief: a young family who wanted to modernise their home and create a kitchen and dining space that reflected the way they live. Informal, generous, centred on cooking and connection rather than occasion and formality.
The existing kitchen was closed in, dark, and isolated. The extension opened the footprint, and the design shaped it with intention. An island bench anchors the room and keeps the chef in conversation with whoever is in the space. The material selection layers warm tones, natural variation, and quiet colour in a way that feels cohesive rather than curated.
What the space achieves is harder to specify than any individual material choice: it feels elevated without effort, and lived-in without compromise.
